2021 Mazda Carbon Editions Go Black, Red, and a Shade of Gray
Blacked-out wheels and trim are all the rage, included in option packages ranging from the Acura A-Spec Package to the Volkswagen R-Line Black editions. Now, for 2021, Mazda is formalizing its approach to the trend with new Carbon Editions that will be available for the 2021 Mazda6, Mazda CX-5, and Mazda CX-9 models.
Building on a look that first appeared on the redesigned Mazda3 Hatchback and then was added to the 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, each Carbon Edition is painted Polymetal Gray metallic, a bluish gray with a subtle and warm undertone. Inside, the Carbon Editions will include dark red leather seats, red accent stitching, and black honeycomb detailing. Aluminum wheels are finished in an exclusive black metallic color, and gloss black is added to the side mirror caps.
Mazda says the Carbon Edition models will include a Bose premium sound system, heated front seats, and “most of Mazda’s i-Activesense safety features.” This suggests the Carbon Edition models are based on Grand Touring or Grand Touring Reserve trim, which come also standard with a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine good for up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque.
If you want a similar look on a different Mazda model, Polymetal Gray paint is also offered on the Mazda3 Hatchback, Mazda CX-30, and Mazda MX-5 Miata soft-top. But only the Mazda3 and Miata RF allow you to pair the color with red leather seats and a dark wheel finish. If the new Carbon Edition models prove successful, perhaps Mazda will extend the treatment to other models.
Prices for the 2021 Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-9, and Mazda6 Carbon Editions will be available closer to their arrival in showrooms.
