2022 Genesis G70 Changes Improve Design, Technology
Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, has announced several changes to the 2022 Genesis G70, its compact luxury sport sedan which led its segment in both the J.D. Power 2020 Initial Quality Study (IQS) and the J.D. Power 2020 Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study.
Most noticeable is a sophisticated styling makeover that brings the car in line with the midsize G80 sedan, large G90 sedan, and all-new midsize GV80 SUV. A new grille, signature-design quad LED headlamps, and a reworked front fascia are the most prominent visual changes, matched in the back by new quad taillight elements and a revised bumper. Viewed from the side, the G70 gains fresh wheel designs and a new fender vent.
Interior changes are also coming to the 2022 Genesis G70. It gets a wider 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen display, and the system features over-the-air wireless updates. The wireless smartphone charging pad is also revised for easier use and to accommodate a wider range of device sizes.
Genesis made no official statements regarding powertrain choices, but industry rumors suggest that the 2022 G70’s engine lineup will align with the larger G80, which includes a 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 375-hp twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6. These changes would also mean the 6-speed manual gearbox in the current G70 will no longer be available, so grab one while you still can.
The Genesis G70 is rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive an option. The car competes with other compact luxury sport sedans like the Acura TLX, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
