2022 Genesis G80 Gets New Sport Model and Higher Price
Genesis builds some of the most distinctive and value-packed luxury vehicles available. Originally used as the name of an upscale Hyundai sedan, Genesis spun off to do its own thing a while back and has been on a tear with new models and updated designs in the last few years. The 2022 Genesis G80 sedan is one of three cars the brand sells and got a complete redesign just last year. This year, the 2022 G80 picks up a powerful new Sport trim level.
Genesis offers the 2022 G80 with your choice between two powertrains. The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that produces 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. The upgrade engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that produces 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. It also comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission but is paired exclusively with all-wheel drive.
The headline change for the 2022 G80 is the introduction of a new Sport model. Its sharp exterior design features include a dark glossy chrome grille and a three-dimensional wing-shaped front bumper. In addition, two exclusive wheel designs are available, sized 19 or 20 inches in diameter, and a new Cavendish Red paint color is available for Sport trims only.
Inside, the Sport’s interior also gets a handful of trim-exclusive features, including a three-spoke steering wheel, two different upholstery stitching patterns, and two interior trim materials. In addition, buyers can choose between a diamond or V-pattern for the G80 Sport’s seats and sport aluminum or real carbon fiber for the interior trim.
Additionally, the G80 3.5T AWD Sport Prestige models now come with rear-wheel steering, the first time Genesis is offering this feature.
Pricing for 2022 G80 models are as follows:
- G80 2.5T: $49,045 (add $3,150 for AWD)
- G80 2.5T Advanced: $53,645 (add $3,150 for AWD)
- G80 2.5T Prestige: $57,945 (add $2,550 for AWD)
- G80 3.5T AWD Sport: $64,495
- G80 3.5T AWD Sport Prestige: $70,795 (add $500 for summer tires)
All prices include a $1,045 destination charge. Though slight, it’s worth noting that the pricing above represents an increase over the 2021 G80. Hopeful buyers can begin reserving the car later this month on the Genesis website.
