Confirmed 2022 Infiniti QX60 specs show the midsize luxury SUV will have a 295-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine matched to a conventional 9-speed automatic transmission. It will power the front wheels unless buyers choose the optional all-wheel-drive system.

That transmission news signals a welcome upgrade from the current QX60's continuously variable transmission (CVT), and it is likely to markedly improve the crossover SUV’s driving dynamics. The CVT is noted for its ability to provide impressive fuel economy. However, despite the fact it has D-Step Logic enabling it to mimic a conventional “geared” automatic, critics say it is less satisfying in terms driving sound and feel.
Designed in cooperation with noted driveline supplier ZF, the 2020 QX60’s new 9-speed automatic transmission has a larger gear ratio spread of almost 10:1. It is expected to deliver better driving dynamics and more luxurious characteristics on the road while still delivering excellent fuel economy.
"The all-new QX60 has a direct and linear acceleration feel," said Dave Kiesel, manager of powertrain performance at Infiniti's Arizona Testing Center, in a statement. "It gives the driver confidence to not only increase their standing start but also passing on the freeway and in the city. You just step on the pedal, it downshifts, and you go."
Infiniti characterizes the transmission’s shift quality as “imperceptible.” An Active Torque Mount system further refines the drivetrain by isolating engine vibrations outside the cabin and quieting the interior.
The new transmission will also employ an electronic shift-by-wire system that clears space on the center console. The console will house a drive mode selector offering a choice of five settings: Standard, Eco, Snow, Sport, and Personal.
Infiniti has not said as much, but the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 will likely share its platform and many components with the redesigned 2022 Nissan Pathfinder.
The new 2022 Pathfinder has a familiar 3.5-liter direct-injection V6 that offers 284 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque. Infiniti says the 2022 QX60 will offer a 295-hp 3.5-liter V6, matching the output of the outgoing version. For reference, the departing QX60 generates 270 lb-ft of torque.
In contrast to the 2022 QX60, the more off-road-oriented Pathfinder models feature Nissan's all-new Intelligent 4WD with a 7-position drive and terrain mode selector. The modes are Standard, Sport, Eco, Snow, Sand, Mud/Rut, and Tow, so it's obvious that Nissan execs feel Pathfinder customers are more likely to get their vehicles dirty than QX60 customers are.
