2022 Jaguar F-Type Goes All-V8 All the Time

Jack R. Nerad | Jun 02, 2021

The Jaguar F-Type has always been one of the prettiest sports cars on the planet. But because of the number of powertrains it offered, it never had a clear identity. For the 2022 model year, all that has changed. In the U.S. market, Jaguar is saying goodbye to the 4-cylinder and V6-engined F-Types. All U.S.-spec 2022 Jaguar F-Types will get a potent, supercharged V8.

For the coming model year, Jaguar is introducing the 2022 F-Type P450, which has a 444-horsepower supercharged 5.0-liter V8. It comes in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive (R-Dynamic) configurations and coupe and convertible body styles. According to Jaguar, the F-Type P450 also has impressive performance credentials, vaulting from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. The automaker says its top speed is 177 mph.

To deliver that kind of performance, a standard electronic active differential enhances traction. And for those who like to enjoy their performance with a bit of British understatement, Jaguar's Quiet Start feature is also standard. It quells the cacophony of the supercharged V8's start-up by closing bypass valves in the sports car's rear muffler. Those valves then open automatically when the driver gets on the throttle. Of course, if you want to get attention when you start your P450, you can override the feature.

In addition to its ability to whisper, the 2022 F-Type P450 has 20-inch wheels, larger brakes, and Jaguar's Configurable Dynamics driving modes. Configurable Dynamics enables drivers to dial in their preferences for shift speed, throttle response, and steering weight.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Type P450 and its more powerful sibling, the 575-horsepower F-Type R, continue to wear the revised exterior styling that Jaguar introduced for the 2021 model year. The new P450 R-Dynamic AWD trim adds gloss-black front splitter and side sills. It also has auto-dimming power-folding memory heated door mirrors and 20-inch turned-finish wheels.

Inside, buyers will find traditional Jaguar craftsmanship and materials, including Windsor leather and satin-finish chrome. Jaguar fits all P450 models with its 12.3-inch digital instrumentation that offers a choice of display modes. Because the car’s electrical system is older, it does not come with the latest Pivi Pro infotainment technology.

Six-way power-adjustable seats are standard on the P450 rear-drive model, while the R-Dynamic AWD trim has 12-way adjustable seats with memory function plus an aluminum center console.

For those who seek even more performance, the 575-horsepower F-Type R, with its electronically managed torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive system, has a suggested retail price of $103,200 (plus destination).
