2022 Toyota Highlander Bronze Edition Trends Away From Black
Toyota will offer a new special edition of its fourth-generation Highlander midsize crossover SUV next year, and it promises to turn heads wherever it goes. But it won’t have the popular blacked-out look Toyota typically applies to its vehicles with its Nightshade package. Instead, the new 2022 Toyota Highlander Bronze Edition will try to capture a “moment” in automotive design.
When it goes on sale later this year, the new Toyota Highlander Bronze Edition will be available in two exterior colors with bronze-colored interior and exterior accents. Fitted only with the Highlander’s hybrid powertrain, the Bronze Edition offers front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations and a choice between gray or white exterior paint.
For those who like bronze, this new special edition gives it to them inside and out. The Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition has 18-inch bronze-finished alloy wheels, illuminated bronze-colored door sills, and bronze interior accents. Toyota says its seats are mid-century modern-inspired, and they feature leather-like SofTex with fabric inserts and bronze stitching. Even the floor and cargo mats have unique bronze logos.
The Bronze Edition’s equipment builds off the Highlander Hybrid XLE trim level. Standard features unique to the 2022 Highlander Bronze Edition include:
- 10-way power driver’s seat with memory function
- Hands-free power liftgate
- Rain-sensing wipers
- Digital rearview mirror
- Power outlet
- Ambient lighting
- Puddle lamps with Highlander logo
- LED-strip-type daytime running lights
Like all 2022 Highlander Hybrids, the 2022 Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition combines a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors. The hybrid drivetrain’s battery pack concealed under the rear seats helps the new model achieve an expected 36 miles-per-gallon rating in combined driving while not intruding into the passenger or luggage space.
The base version of the Bronze Edition has front-wheel drive. The available all-wheel-drive system is unique to the Highlander Hybrids and uses a rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when desirable. That electric motor works independently of the other parts of the drive system with no mechanical connection to the vehicle’s transmission.
Toyota has not announced pricing for the 2022 Highlander Bronze Edition. Slotting into the lineup between the Hybrid XLE and the Hybrid Limited, we expect it to cost about $43,000 plus a destination charge. The Highlander Bronze Edition’s release date is in the fall of 2021.
