2022 Volkswagen Lineup to Have More Tech and Safety Features
Volkswagen (VW) today announced changes and updates to its new car and SUV lineup for the 2022 model year. The changes focus on bringing more tech and updated safety features to a broader range of models. The German automaker is now offering its Digital Cockpit tech, which turns the gauge cluster into a configurable screen, as standard equipment on most models. The company’s IQ Drive advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) is also either standard or widely available across the 2022 VW lineup.
Here’s a summary of the changes:
The low-slung Arteon fastback sedan gets a trim level shuffling for 2022, bringing the desirable features of previous R-Line models to all three available configurations. The car also gets a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that makes 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque—an improvement over last year’s 268 hp and 258 pound-feet. A 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission replaces the 8-speed automatic from previous years.
2022 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport
Volkswagen trimmed the model offerings for the 3-row Atlas and 2-row Atlas Cross Sport to six configurations for 2022. All models now come standard with an 8-inch Digital Cockpit, SEL trims get all-wheel drive, and versions equipped with a VR6 engine now come standard with a trailer hitch.
2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R
The all-new 2022 VW GTI and Golf R come with a 10.35-inch Digital Cockpit, touch interfaces, and 30-color ambient interior lighting. Volkswagen’s IQ Drive technology is standard for both cars, which includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and more.
The Taos is a brand-new compact SUV that joins VW’s lineup for the 2022 model year and is offered in three trims: S, SE, and SEL. Digital Cockpit is standard here as well, along with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive. Volkswagen also offers an upgraded MIB3 infotainment system, wireless charging, IQ Drive tech, and a road sign assist feature.
The Tiguan sees several updates for the 2022 model year. The SUV’s front-end styling is refreshed and is available with an illuminated light line in the grille. Inside, Digital Cockpit is standard, as are heated front seats. VW says the top three trims get wireless charging, app features, and a new touch-controlled climate interface. IQ Drive is available here as well.
