2023 Land Rover Discovery Metropolitan Edition Adds Style
The Land Rover Discovery is an iconic off-road SUV with a strong history of luxury and rugged capability. Though the LR2 and LR4 took over the nameplate in the United States for several years, the Discovery name returned a few years ago, along with a Discovery Sport model. Land Rover gave the full-size SUV a makeover in 2021, so the 2022 model year didn’t bring any substantive updates. Though we’re not even into the 2022 calendar year, Land Rover is already outlining updates for the 2023 Discovery, starting with a new range-topping Metropolitan Edition.
The new Metropolitan Edition starts with the Discovery R-Dynamic HSE trim level, which already comes with deluxe features such as dual-zone climate control, an 11.4-inch touchscreen, and a host of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). Land Rover adds several visual and functional upgrades to give the high-end Metropolitan Edition Discovery a unique touch. Silver lower bumper inserts give the SUV an upscale look, while 22-inch wheels and black Land Rover brake calipers add sportiness. The special edition pushes the luxury quotient further with a head-up display, heated steering wheel, power and heated third-row seats, front cooler, and 4-zone automatic climate control.
The Discovery Metropolitan Edition comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that produces 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. According to Land Rover, with the 6-cylinder engine under its hood, the Discovery makes the sprint from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds and can go on to a top speed of 130 mph. Other Discovery trims are available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, making 296 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Since most buyers won’t be drag racing their Disco, off-road prowess and capability are essential regardless of the engine. To that end, the SUV can tow up to 8,200 pounds and tackle serious off-road obstacles, even with the large 22-inch rollers equipped.
Land Rover hasn’t given information on updates for the rest of the Discovery catalog for 2023, but the automaker has noted that the SUV will get more standard equipment across the board. All versions of the 2023 Discovery will get wireless device charging, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, a Meridian sound system, and tri-zone climate control. The 2023 Discovery Metropolitan Edition starts at $73,500 before a $1,350 destination fee is applied.
