Alfa Romeo Bids Arrivederci to the 4C Spider with New Special Edition
As the buxom Alfa Romeo 4C Spider drives off into the sunset after the 2020 model year, the Italian carmaker creates a final limited-production run of models in honor of the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, itself a rarity and considered to be one of the world’s first supercars.
The new 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider 33 Stradale Tributo is built on a red carbon-fiber chassis and dipped in exclusive Rosso Villa d’Este tri-coat paint; merely saying the name of the hue evokes an apres-siesta aperitivo, no? Gray-gold aluminum alloy wheels also set this 4C Spider apart, along with plenty of badging inside and out, and a tobacco brown and black interior. The result is a sultry look for an already racy drop top.
A specially numbered book comes with the car, filled with history of the 4C as well as the original 33 Stradale, which Alfa introduced at the Monza circuit of the night before the 1967 Formula One Italian Grand Prix. With a top speed of 162 mph, the 60s-era hand-built mid-engine exotic won plenty of glances and hearts. Today, the 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has a turbocharged 237-horsepower 1.7-liter 4-cylinder engine, launching this lightweight sports car from zero to 60 mph in about 4.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 160 mph.
Intended to serve as a performance halo vehicle for Alfa Romeo when the brand returned to the U.S., the 4C makes way for more SUVs, which seems all Americans want to buy anymore. So, it you still want an example of the most affordable Italian sports car available, and no, the Mazda-based and Japan-sourced Fiat 124 Spider doesn’t count, then get to an Alfa Romeo dealership tout de suite.
And if you want one of the 33 examples of the 4C Spider 33 Stradale Tributo that will ever be made, prepare to write a check for $79,995 (not including the $1,595 destination charge).
