Ford Bronco Release Date Pushed to Summer 2021

Christian Wardlaw | Dec 07, 2020

Ford says the hotly anticipated 2021 Bronco revival will start in the summer of 2021, the SUV’s release date pushed back by about three months due to delays with its suppliers. Originally, the first examples of the revived Bronco, a retro-designed competitor to the Jeep Wrangler, were due for delivery in the spring of 2021.

According to a report published by Reuters, company spokesperson Said Deep blames the delay on supplier challenges caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Unless there are further delays, the first Broncos for sale to the public will roll down Ford’s Wayne, Michigan assembly line in the spring. The off-road-oriented Sasquatch version equipped with a manual gearbox is reportedly pushed to the 2022 model year.

Immediately following the Bronco’s reveal earlier this year, Ford accepted 190,000 reservations for the SUV. Customers who still want one of the first the new Broncos can confirm their orders starting in mid-January of 2021. Originally, the order confirmation date was December 7. People holding reservations get an extension to confirm their order, too, from January 31 to March 19. Broncos won’t be available in dealership stock until all reserved orders are built and delivered.

The third Bronco in the lineup, the Escape-based Bronco Sport, is on sale now with no waiting. Unlike the larger and more rugged 2-door and 4-door Broncos, the Bronco Sport is a crossover SUV equipped with genuine off-roading capabilities. It competes with small but rugged crossovers such as the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk and Compass Trailhawk, Subaru Crosstrek and Forester, the Toyota RAV4 Adventure and RAV4 TRD Off-Road.
