Kia Debuts The All-New 2023 Soul
The new 2023 Kia Soul is arriving later this summer, and the popular compact sedan features refreshed design elements throughout.
Kia has simplified the lineup while adding new color selections and two optional packages built around technology and convenience. Launching back in 2009, The Soul has helped redefine the boxy small-car segment, appealing to drivers from multiple demographics with its efficiency, practicality, and sporty aesthetic.
“The Soul defined a whole new segment of small cars when it first entered the Kia lineup, and it continues into the 2023 model year with as much fun, practicality, and style as ever,” said Steve Center, COO & EVP of Kia America. “The basic form remains, which is what more than 75,000 happy Soul owners loved so much about the funky runabout last year, representing a nearly 5 percent increase over sales in 2020. The new 2023 Soul is set to continue that trend with its refreshed design inside and out, advanced technology, and feature-packed trims.”
The efficient 2023 Soul is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 147-horsepower, with Kia’s Intelligent Variable Transmission standard across all variants.
The Soul’s new grill is fashioned with available LED headlights and redesigned fog lights, with all-new Daytime Running Lamps and turn signals helping to round out the fresh front-end redesign. Both 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels are now available, and a redesigned rear fascia and taillights showcase some of the Soul’s exterior enhancements. A plethora of solid and two-tone exterior colorways remain available, complemented by a multitude of new two-tone paint programs, including Surf Blue and Clear White with a Fusion Black roof.
As noted, Kia simplified the lineup for the 2023 Soul, condensing it down to 5 trimlines: LX, S, EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Tech, with each trim offering a bevy of standard and available equipment. While the Turbo and X-Line have been discontinued, many of their features (including Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA), Rear Cross Collision Avoidance (RCCA), and 16-inch alloy wheels) are included in the Soul’s new variants.
The GT-Line Technology Package offers customers a litany of sought-after features and driver-assist systems. A 10.25-inch color touchscreen is the access point for the Soul’s Harman/Kardon audio system, complete with an external amplifier, subwoofer, and door-mounted tweeters. One of the Soul’s defining characteristics is the multi-colored LED speaker lights that pulse with the tempo of the music being played.
The GT-Line Technology Package also includes the following features:
- Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning capability (radar + camera type)
- Highway Drive Assist
- Navigation based Smart Cruise Control
- Electronic Parking Brake
- Power driver seat
- High-gloss interior trim
- LED headlights and taillights
- Cargo Cover
Aside from the optional features in the GT-Line Technology Package, a multitude of previously optional features are now standard across all trims, including:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist-Pedestrian (FCA-Ped; camera type)
- Lane Keeping Assist + Lane Following Assist
- Driver Attention Warning
- Lane Departure Warning
- High Beam Assist
- Rear Occupant Alert (door logic)
Announcements on pricing for the 2023 Soul are expected to be made closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.
