New 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo Confirmed

Mazda will offer a new engine option in its small SUV for the 2021 model year. Equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo will provide 250 horsepower, 320 lb.-ft. of torque, and include all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

Keep in mind that you unlock the engine’s full 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. only when burning 93-octane fuel. Using regular 87-octane gas will result in 227 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. Still, that’s a notable upgrade over the base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine’s 186 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. A 6-speed automatic transmission delivers power to all four wheels through Mazda’s i-Activ AWD system. 

This turbocharged engine is the same one Mazda uses under the hoods of the CX-30’s bigger SUV siblings, the CX-5 and CX-9, as well as the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback and Mazda 6 midsize sedan. 

Mazda also announced new active safety technologies that will be available exclusively on the 2021 CX-30 2.5 Turbo. They include rear automatic emergency braking that works in conjunction with the rear cross-traffic warning system and traffic jam assistance that accelerates, brakes, steers, and centers the CX-30 in its lane when the SUV is traveling under 40 mph.

Visually, the 2.5 Turbo distinguishes itself with black 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, larger exhaust outlets, black-painted side mirrors, and a Turbo badge on the tailgate. 

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo will be in showrooms by the end of this year. Mazda will announce prices closer to that date.
