The all-new Honda 2023 Civic Type R prototype will make its U.S. debut at the Honda Indy 200 NTT INDYCAR SERIES on July 1-3. The race will take place at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The highly anticipated Civic Type R will be wearing an exclusive special camouflage design while serving as the presenting sponsor of the Honda Indy 200 race. The Type R will also serve as the lead vehicle at the start of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES on Sunday, July 3rd while taking place in several demonstration laps over the weekend.

Honda has maintained a strong presence in Ohio and at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course over the years. In fact, Honda became the first Japanese company to establish auto manufacturing operations in the U.S when it opened Honda of America Manufacturing in Marysville, Ohio, back in 1982.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R prototype has been making its rounds recently, showcasing its track-worthy credentials while setting a new track record for a front-wheel-drive car at the legendary Suzuka Circuit. This circuit is home to the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, and during final performance testing and evaluation back in April, the new Civic Type R completed Suzuka’s 3.6-mile course in 2 minutes and 23.120 seconds. The record-breaking performance surpassed the previous track record by nearly one second, set by the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition

While no official release date has been made public yet, the next-generation Honda Civic Type R is expected to go on sale later this year or in early 2023. No pricing has been released yet either, although its estimated MSRP is likely to come in close to $50,000.

More details on the new Honda Civic Type R to follow in the coming weeks.
