Liz Kim | Nov 13, 2020

This week, we reported the changes to the 2021 Land Rover Discovery, previewed BMW’s new electric SUV, and explained just how long it will take to recharge the new 2022 Ford E-Transit electric van. And if you’ve ever wondered how to go about buying a car from another state, check out our full explainer article.

But that’s not everything that was happening in the automotive space.

Redesigned 2022 Honda Civic to Launch on Twitch. Eh? - Find the best Honda deals!

The Honda Civic not only wants to appeal to the young at heart, but also the young. As Honda claims, the Civic is the most popular vehicle for first-time car buyers, the young, and those who hail from other cultures. So, it makes sense that Honda will debut the 11th generation 2022 Civic lineup on Twitch, which, as Honda says, is “the world’s leading live streaming entertainment service.”

2022 Honda Civic Rear View Lighting Signature

Yes, some may wonder about the logic in introducing such a prominent car on a social media platform that may be mainstream to gamers but esoteric to everyone else. Still, the buzz is sure to impact both the Civic reveal on Tuesday, November 17th, at 6:45 p.m. Pacific time on Honda’s Head2Head channel, as well as the platform itself.

Honda’s newest Civic will launch in the spring of 2021 as a 2022 model and feature the latest safety and infotainment technology.

Rivian Truck and SUV Pricing Announced

The fledgling Rivian electric truck and SUV company announced prices for the Rivian R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV. The R1T will have a starting price of $69,000 and arrives in June of 2021, while the R1S SUV is priced from around $72,000 and is available in August 2021.

Rivians will offer a driving range of about 230 to 400 miles, depending on which battery pack and electric motors the customer chooses, with the top-of-the-line models churning out about 750 hp. And while a huge advantage of owning an electric vehicle is fewer maintenance or service needs, for those whose vehicles do need a “tune-up,” Rivian also announced that it will build 41 brick-and-mortar service stations around the country, and it will provide mobile service to customers.

Hyundai Goes All-In on Electric - Find the best Hyundai deals!

Hyundai finalized the expansion of its electric program by announcing it will offer ten electrified vehicles in 2022. The electrification plan includes hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electrics, and fuel-cells. It also features the first two new members of the all-electric Ioniq sub-brand: the Ioniq 5 compact crossover and Ioniq 6 midsize sedan.

Japan Has All the Cool Stuff: Honda Debuts Level 3 Autonomy - Find the best Honda deals!

Japan tends to forge ahead when it comes to technology. They’ve enjoyed using 200-mph bullet trains for almost 60 years, so it’s no wonder that they’re currently leading in autonomous vehicle technology. The Honda Legend, available in America in the form of the Acura RLX through the 2020 model year, will offer a Level 3 autonomous driving system called Traffic Jam Pilot starting in March of 2021.

What makes Honda’s Traffic Jam Pilot different from traffic assistance technologies currently on the market? Drivers will be able to look away from the road, the primary difference between a Level 2+ technology such as General Motors Super Cruise. Even so, the driver must be ready to take over at any time, and Traffic Jam Pilot is available only under specific driving conditions.

Audi and Mercedes-Benz have similar technologies, but they require regulatory approval for use. Tesla is also (infamously) working on Level 3 driving assistance technology.

2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition. Gifts of Gold and Diamonds Requested. - Find the best Ram deals!

Dodge built purposeful, rugged military vehicles during World War II and debuted the Power Wagon at the end of that global conflict, in 1945. Ram celebrates the original’s 75th birthday with a new Anniversary Edition of the 2021 Power Wagon.

Equipped with a unique grille mimicking the first Power Wagon but coming off as a Burt Reynolds or Tom Selleck mustache, the 75th Anniversary Edition gets the popular blacked-out look combined with upgraded LED headlights and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

Inside, you’ll find brown leather seats and 75th Anniversary logos sprinkled around the cabin. Ram also adds Off-Road Pages technology to the truck’s Uconnect infotainment system. The 2021 Ram Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition arrives in showrooms by the end of 2020, carrying a starting price of $66,945.
