Thermal Orange 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition Shares Paint, Plant with NSX

Home of the Acura NSX, the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) hand-builds every example of the automaker’s mid-engine supercar. Last year, in classic small-batch fashion, the craftspeople at the PMC plant also hand-assembled limited quantities of specially-painted Acura MDX PMC SUV and TLX PMC sedans.

Now, the 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition gets its turn.

Acura will create just 360 examples of the hand-made RDX PMC, all of them painted Thermal Orange, an unusual color used only for the NSX. Acura bases it on the RDX Advance SH-AWD version of the compact SUV, and it will cost in the low $50,000 range.

Applying the glowing Thermal Orange paint is not a spray-and-dry process. For five painstaking days, Acura applies numerous base coats, a mid-coat of orange mica and gold, and then four layers of clearcoat before a curing process begins. The 2021 Acura RDX PMC also sports gloss black paint for the roof panel, grille, door handles, side mirrors, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. Black chrome exhaust tips finish off the look.

Inside, this version of the Acura RDX has orange stitching to provide contrast within an otherwise black cabin and a special PMC Edition plate with the serial number attached to the center console.

Since the Acura RDX PMC is based on the Advance Package, it’s fully loaded with the latest in infotainment and safety technologies. Under the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged 272-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system.

The 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition arrives in showrooms in October of 2020, just in time for Halloween.
