Ultium Charge 360 Promises to Make Owning a GM EV Easy

Though most people who own an electric vehicle recharge them at home, it is sometimes necessary to find a charging station when you’re out and about. Because charging stations are not as ubiquitous as gasoline stations, this potential need for electricity in unknown regions can lead to “range anxiety,” a fear that your EV will run out of battery charge and leave you stranded.

General Motors, which is about to launch numerous EVs, has a solution to this. With Ultium Charge 360, GM is partnering with seven different charging networks to make finding a charging station and recharging a vehicle easy. 

Additionally, together with EVgo, GM has launched its first DC fast chargers offering up to 350 kilowatts of power, enough to quickly give its upcoming Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Hummer electric vehicles significant added range in a short period of time. The first sites, each with a minimum of four charging stalls, are now open in California, Florida, and Washington. GM says the partnership will add 500 350-kW DC fast charging stalls across America by the end of 2021 and triple the size of the country’s fast-charging network by 2025.

“GM agrees with the customer need for a robust charging experience that makes the transition to an EV seamless and helps drive mass adoption,” said Travis Hester, GM’s chief EV officer. “As we launch 30 EVs globally by the end of 2025, Ultium Charge 360 simplifies and improves the at-home charging experience and the public charging experience – whether it’s community-based or road-trip charging.”

In addition to the GM/EVgo partnership, Ultium Charge 360 integrates access to nearly 60,000 charging stations operated by seven different providers. A smartphone app will make it easy to find available chargers, navigate to them, plug your EV in, and pay for electricity.
