Chevrolet's first dedicated all-electric vehicle, the Bolt EV rapidly progressed from auto show concept to production reality. Developed on a challenge to create an affordable electric car with a range exceeding 200 miles, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV started hitting showrooms in late 2016. Though the production car differed in many ways from the concept, Chevrolet's Bolt EV retained its small, compact hatchback form. Capable of travelling 238 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack, the Bolt EV propels itself through a single permanent magnet electric motor that generates 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Replenishment of the battery can be performed through a 7.2- kW onboard charger or external charging units. An optional DC Fast Charging system can provide power for a 90-mile travel distance in 30 minutes. Positioning of the battery pack within the vehicle's floor allows for a spacious interior and a 16.9 cubic foot cargo area. In addition to the high-tech powertrain, the 2017 Bolt EV incorporates advanced cabin equipment such as a 10.2-inch touchscreen, ten air bags and OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi as standard features. Sold only in select states for early 2017, Chevrolet will quickly expand availability of the Bolt EV nationwide by the end of the year.
