<p>The Volkswagen (<a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/volkswagen">VW</a>) ID line of electric vehicles (<a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/hybrid-vs-electric-cars-how-they-work">EVs</a>) is expanding rapidly and will eventually include a full range of electric models in various shapes and sizes. The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/expert-reviews/2021-volkswagen-id-4-review">ID.4</a>&nbsp;compact&nbsp;<a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/what-does-suv-stand-for">SUV</a>&nbsp;is already on the road. Soon, we&rsquo;ll see the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/new-car-previews/2024-volkswagen-id-buzz-preview?make=volkswagen&amp;model=id-buzz">ID. Buzz</a>&nbsp;electric van and other models, but VW&rsquo;s looking to the future with a new concept car. The ID. Aero (pictured) is close to production. According to VW, the car&rsquo;s sweeping roofline and extended length give it an exceptional drag coefficient of just 0.23. VW also says each element of the ID. Aero&rsquo;s bodywork improves airflow in some way, such as the 22-inch wheels&rsquo; flush-mounting with the wheel housing, the specially shaped roofline, and the unique rear-end shape that splits the air as it flows off the car.</p><p>The ID. Aero also features an LED light strip that connects the front end with the fenders and quarter panels. The visual line extends to the back of the car, where VW arranged the LED taillights in a horizontal strip across the back deck. Both light fixtures feature VW&rsquo;s signature honeycomb pattern, and VW split the front fog lights into three individual units built into the lower grille.</p><p><img alt="Volkswagen ID. Volkswagen&rsquo;s MEB platform allows it to stretch the wheels further to each corner, providing a long wheelbase and better space inside. The ID. Aero comes with a 77-kWh battery that delivers a range of up to 385 miles (620 km) on the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/electric-vehicle-range-testing-understanding-nedc-vs-wltp-vs-epa">WLTP standard</a>.</p><p>When it reaches production, the ID. Aero will become a significant component of VW&rsquo;s electrification strategy in China, where it&rsquo;s the fourth EV model from the automaker.
