Released by Volkswagen in 2009, the Tiguan was the carmaker’s first compact crossover SUV, based on the small cart platform and lauding a turbo-boosted engine with Euro-styling. Trim level updates marked the only changes for 2010. Updates to interior and exterior styling and updated feature and trim levels were the earmarks for 2011.
New exterior styling, a smoother automatic transmission and updated trim levels were in store for 2012. No major changes took place for 2013. But in 2014, the Car-Net telematics service was added as a standard feature alongside the introduction of the new performance-enhanced R-Line trim level.
