2023 Hyundai Palisade Preview

The Hyundai Palisade is a well-reviewed, upscale SUV with one of the strongest value propositions around. The Palisade and its corporate sibling, the Kia Telluride, have dominated the midsize SUV segment since debuting for the 2020 model year. Though the Palisade is still a compelling option in its class, Hyundai gives the SUV an overhaul for the 2023 model year that brings more refined interior and exterior styling, additional connected services, and a rugged XRT trim level.

Hyundai keeps things simple with Palisade trims and options as it does with all its models. The Korean automaker hasn't announced the complete 2023 Palisade lineup yet. That said, expect the trims from 2022 to carry over: SE, SEL, XRT (new), Limited, and Calligraphy. Pricing should start in the mid-$30,000 range and top out at around $50,000.

Hyundai updates the Palisade's exterior styling for 2023 with new bumpers on both ends and a new grille. Previous models had a trapezoidal grille with curvy sides, but the new Palisade grill is more square and features interesting grate shapes that decrease in size on the lower portion. The SUV retains its distinctive vertical LED daytime running lights, but they appear more prominent and stretch up to the headlights.

The new XRT trim features 20-inch wheels with a dark finish. Like other XRT models in Hyundai's catalog, the Palisade picks up dark exterior trim and beefier-looking bodywork.

Hyundai says the Palisade's interior space "combines a sense of relaxation and comfort creating a serene environment with 8-passenger seating standard for family adventures." Inside, the Palisade gets a new driver's seat design that helps reduce fatigue, and its third-row seats are now available with heating. Buyers can swap the second-row bench seat for captain's chairs at the expense of one passenger's seating capacity. Still, many parents will find that the separate captain's chair arrangement creates a portable demilitarized zone between kids that can't keep their hands to themselves.

Every 2023 Hyundai Palisade comes with a 3.8-liter V6 engine making 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive. Hyundai offers all-wheel drive (AWD)—branded HTRAC—which brings a towing mode. When active, the setting forces the transmission to hold lower gears longer, so there are fewer shifts when pulling a heavy load.

The AWD system also features torque vectoring to shift torque between the front and rear wheels to improve traction and stability. Though it's a family SUV, the Palisade comes with a Sport mode that sends more torque to the rear wheels. Hyundai says it tuned the system for various scenarios, such as straight-line acceleration, cornering, and hill starts.

2023 Hyundai Palisade Safety - Find the best Hyundai deals!

The 2023 Palisade is too new to have been crash tested, but Hyundai says it added more standard safety tech over the previous model. So, while we don't yet have crash-test results, the new SUV should perform at least as well as its predecessor. As the 2022 Hyundai Palisade earned Top Safety Pick+ honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), that's encouraging.

Standard safety equipment is similar to the previous SUV, which means blind-spot warning, driver attention warning, automatic emergency braking, and more. Hyundai adds its Remote Smart Parking Assist system and enhanced Highway Driving Assist for 2023.

A 12-inch touchscreen with navigation is standard on the 2023 Palisade and offers the latest version of Hyundai's Bluelink connected car tech. Owners can set up multiple driver profiles that are stored in the cloud. The system can hold settings for climate controls, seat positions, and others, and users can take the profiles to another Hyundai vehicle equipped with the same technology.

The Palisade has voice controls that allow hands-free interactions with the climate controls, rear hatch opening, heated steering wheel and seats, and other vehicle settings. Hyundai says voice controls also work with maps, weather data, and stock market updates.
