ALG, a division of J.D. Power, has announced its annual list of vehicles with the best resale value after three years of ownership. Additionally, Honda receives the best resale value award in the mass-market category, while Lexus is the highest-ranked brand in the premium category.

For the 2022 model year, ALG considered the brand outlook, product competitiveness, and used-vehicle market performance of 284 models across 29 vehicle segments. The results of the J.D. Power 2022 U.S. ALG Residual Value Awards are as follows.

Best Resale Value for Cars

There are 11 different cars with the best resale value in 2022, including one minivan. The most affordable is the Hyundai Accent subcompact sedan, while the most expensive is the Porsche 911 Carrera.

If you’re looking for trucks with the best resale value, ALG has identified the four models that are most likely to hold their value during the first three years of ownership. One is a commercial van, while the others are pickups in three different size and capability segments.

These are the winners for 2022:

  • Midsize Pickup – 2022 Toyota Tacoma
  • Full-size Pickup – 2022 Toyota Tundra
  • Full-size Heavy-Duty Pickup – 2022 GMC Sierra HD
  • Commercial Van – 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris

Best Resale Value for Electric Vehicles

The electric vehicle (EV) market remains a small portion of overall new-vehicle sales, but consumer interest and the number of available models increase each passing year. For now, ALG identifies two EV models that are likely to hold their value the best.

Electric vehicles with the best resale value are as follows:

  • Mass-Market Electric – 2022 Hyundai Kona EV
  • Premium Electric – 2022 Tesla Model Y
