The 2021 model year isn’t significant in terms of changes to the Subaru lineup; most of the revisions relate to minor additions to safety equipment. The 2022 Subaru lineup promises more excitement, though, as it will contain all-new versions of the BRZ, WRX, and WRX STi.

Subaru’s biggest vehicle, the three-row Ascent SUV, includes a lane-keeping assistance function and a new lane-centering assistance technology as a part of the standard EyeSight collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). Steering-responsive LED headlights that help to illuminate around dark corners and curves are also standard on all 2021 Ascent models, along with a new seatbelt reminder system for the second- and third-row seats.

The big news for the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is a shot of adrenalin in the form of a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Paired only with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), this more powerful engine delivers more robust acceleration, solving a common complaint about this small SUV. It is standard with new-for-2021 Sport model and the continuing Limited trim level.

Sport trim features a dual-function version of Subaru’s X-Mode traction system with Hill Descent Control, which enhances performance in snowy or muddy conditions. It also offers unique exterior details, its own set of 17-inch aluminum wheels, water-repellant StarTex upholstery with yellow stitching, and carbon fiber-inspired interior accents.

Subaru continues to offer a plug-in hybrid version of the Crosstrek. For 2021, it gets revised suspension tuning for better handing and enhanced comfort. 

Across the entire Crosstrek lineup, you’ll see refreshed grille, front bumper, and wheel designs, and Crosstreks equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and EyeSight gain new lane-keeping assistance and lane-centering assistance as standard equipment.
